Are you a little self-conscious about having your picture taken while wearing braces? Don't worry, it's completely normal. Today, our orthodontists are sharing tips on ways you can take a great picture with braces.
You may be a little insecure today about the way you look in braces, but, soon you will want to be able to look back and remember this time of your life. Here, we share some tips that could help you take a good picture, and look back on the days you wore braces.
Pick less noticeable braces.
Many advancements have been made to orthodontic treatments over the years, and there are also lots of low-profile treatment options available for today's orthodontic patients.
Self-ligating braces are a good example of this. They don’t use bands or elastics, and the brackets are smaller than the ones for traditional braces.
The benefits of ceramic braces are similar. Even though the brackets are a little larger in size than ones for standard braces, they are made of tooth-coloured ceramic which helps them blend in well with your teeth.
Invisalign might also be a good option available to you. Invisalign aligners aren't made from any metals. Instead, they are crafted from clear, BPA-free plastic, which makes them look almost invisible when they are being worn.
All of the above treatment options could make your braces look less obvious in pictures and help make your face and smile the main focus.
Add a bit of colour!
Rather than downplaying your braces, make them an accessory and highlight them with colour!
Traditional metal braces have elastic bands attached to the brackets that need to be switched out on a routine basis.
These elastics come in almost every colour of the rainbow, allowing to you change up your look, coordinate your braces with an outfit you’re planning for a special event, or compliment the colour of your eyes or skin tone.
Practice Makes Perfect
If you know you’ll be getting your picture taken soon, take some time to practice smiling with your new braces. Stand in front of a mirror and smile at yourself, from various angles.
You could also try taking some selfies, or have a family member or friend take some pictures of you.
Doing things like this could help you get used to the way look when you smile with braces.
Just getting accustomed to your new look can really help you overcome the lack of confidence you have in your new smile, and nothing takes a better picture than a big and confident smile!
Your braces are going to play a big role in your appearance for the next several months or years.
It will be in your best interest to work on feeling as confident and comfortable with your smile as possible, both now, and in the future when you’re looking back at pictures of yourself during your time with braces. We hope these tips help!
