There will be certain foods that you just can’t eat during your orthodontic treatment. These dietary limitations can make packing a lunch for school or work tricky, so here are some ideas for convenient and filling snack options.
Tasty Dairy
Dairy foods such as yogurt, soft cheeses and pudding are easy on your braces, are all full of protein and calcium, and they’re tasty, too! They’re usually quite portable and easy to carry around, although you will need to keep them cool with freezer packs or in the refrigerator.
Sweet Soft Fruits
Watermelon, grapes, and kiwis are soft, refreshing and sweet! They also have lots of fibre to fill you up between meals. Cut your fruit up at the beginning of the week and store portions in your fridge in plastic baggies or Tupperware to grab and go.
Soft Meats
Meatballs, lunch meats and soft-cooked meats like chicken are high in protein and will keep you going all day long. Serve these meats on a sandwich or cook up a large batch in sauce to eat with pasta, potatoes and veggies throughout the week.
Nutritious Soft Veggies
Softer vegetables like tomatoes, peppers, or any cooked veggies are easy to prepare and store for easy access. These foods are full of vitamins and minerals that will keep your body (including your teeth) strong and healthy.
Thin Crackers or Vegetable Chips
You'll find a variety of healthy crackers and veggie chip options at the grocery store. Choose something low in sodium, and nothing too hard or crunchy. Eat these tasty foods along with your soft cheeses and some fruit for a simple, delicious lunch!
